Drake Maye Recap

Drake Maye came fresh off the bench in week 6 against the Texans, after sitting behind veteran starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett for the beginning of the season. The team was struggling to move the ball down the field, and Jacoby Brissett failed to throw for more than 130 yards a game. When head coach Jerod Mayo announced that Maye would take over as the starter, fans were worried that all of the problems happening around the quarterback would continue, and this would demoralize Drake Maye and cause his career to start off on a poor note. To the disbelief of football fans across America, despite the dysfunctional offensive line and the lackluster weapons in the passing game, Drake Maye put on a show. He displayed his ability to make throws down the field and change the sticks, along with his ability to extend plays and escape the pocket for a quick run. The most important thing from Maye thus far has been the fact that he can read the entire field, going from read to read, and then get the ball out quickly. His patience and decision making is a strength of his, and that is what stood out to fans the most on that Sunday. In Maye’s first two starts, he threw for 519 yards and 5 touchdowns and led the team in rushing yards in both games. The only other quarterback to throw for 500 yards and 5 touchdowns in their first two starts is Dan Marino. Not only is Drake Maye a great quarterback for the future, but he also brings excitement to their offense and brings a lot more viewers on Sundays. “Throughout his first couple games, his strong arm and ability to read defenses have made him a lot of fun to watch.” -Connor Carson, Form IV. The fact that Drake Maye is able to accomplish these feats with the worst weapons in the league and a different starting offensive line every week proves that he is destined for greatness, and gives hope to Patriots fans for the future to come.
