Another Strong Season for Varsity Baseball Winds Down

As the spring season comes to a close, our varsity baseball team, coached by Mr. Grant and Mr. O’Leary, has managed to put together another very successful season. After securing key victories down the stretch against opponents such as St. Sebastian’s, Milton Academy, and Roxbury Latin, the team stands with a current record of 12-5. Members of the team attribute their success to effective practices, which take place both in the batting cages as well as out on the spectacular varsity diamond, where teammates typically break off into position groups in order to hone defensive skills.

Of course, the team’s success has been due, in large part, to stellar pitching. The pitching staff of Sam Rohrer, Jake McOsker, Peter O’Connell, and Devin O’Donovan have combined for a remarkable six shutouts, holding Groton, St. George’s, St. Mark’s, Milton Academy, St. Paul’s, and Roxbury Latin to a combined zero runs. Even so, the team has certainly had to deal with adversity along the way, suffering disappointing losses at the hands of perennial tough opponents in Governor’s Academy and Lawrence Academy.

Amidst a fabulous roster, there certainly have been standout performers. Fellow teammates have identified Evan Sleight, Brendan Rocha, Sam Rohrer, and Robbie Cronin as playing a key roles to this year’s team. Furthermore, as a testament to the team’s talent and success, several players have already made plans to play on at the collegiate level. Evan Sleight, (University of Virginia), David Conforti, (New York University), Peter O’Connell (Bowdoin), and Robbie Cronin (Trinity), have all committed to their respective colleges, hoping to pursue a future in baseball.

Heading off into summer, and with two key games remaining on the schedule, against Brooks and BB&N, the team is aiming to finish out the season the right way.
