Dr. Tift and Mr. Chittock Organize Upper School Poetry Slam

On 4/23, Dr. Tift and Mr. Chittock organized a poetry slam for the Creative Writing students and any others who wanted to share poems that they personally wrote. The slam started off with many Creative Writing students, such as Alex Laidlaw, Thomas Sheehan, Adrian Tan, and Andrew Hildebrandt performing their works. Many students not in the Creative Writing class also played, with Brady Paquette performing “My Honest Poem”, George Carroll with his poem “Things I Hate”, “I Rise” by Ashton Cruz, and finally “Milk and Cookies”, by Adam Shaff.

Overall, the slam went super well, as many people outside of the Creative Writing class came in with their own poems, inspired by Poetry Month and other poetry-related events such as the Poetry Fest. There was even a freestyle at the very end by Dylan Doherty and Miles Fritz. Poetry is a form of writing that many people don’t enjoy, but after experiencing events such as the poetry slam, Poetry Fest, and Poetry Month, it’s hard not to like it.
