New Staff Member: Ms. Cushman

Ms. Caroline Cushman, a graduate of a fellow ISL school, Governor’s Academy, is the new assistant to the Library Director, Mr. Hegarty. She grew up in a small town in New Hampshire, near Exeter. An avid golfer and skier, Ms. Cushman attended St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. At St. Lawrence, she was a member of the women’s golf team for all 4 years. Ms. Cushman is an enthusiastic supporter of the hometown Boston Bruins, and she also roots for the other hometown teams, the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, and the Boston Celtics.

Looking ahead, Ms. Cushman, looks to become a head librarian in the future. She also will be assisting Dr. Tift with the middle school publication, The Bell, and also working with the middle school debate team. Additionally, Ms. Cushman, will be bringing her archives experience and knowledge in helping with the Belmont Hill archives. According to Mr. Hegarty, “the Belmont Hill archives played a key role in the success of the Advanced Historical Research course last spring in which we were able to explore the connections between the Atkins family, their sugar plantation in Cuba, and the founding of Belmont Hill.” Mr. Hegarty also noted that “with the 2023 centenary of the school’s founding coming up in the not too distant future, the archives will play an even more significant role, in reflecting back on 100 years of Belmont Hill. Ms. Cushman and retired faculty member Mr. Prenatt will be great assets in further exploring the treasure troves currently in the archives.”

A diligent worker and an outgoing personality, Ms. Cushman will fit perfectly into the Belmont Hill community.
