Tennis Captures 4th Victory of Season Over St. George’s

With an 8-2 record as of Saturday, May 2nd (after winning handily at St. George’s), the Varsity Tennis team has gotten off to a great start this year and has serious ambitions for the league title as well as a successful turnout at New England’s. Captain Ben Lebowitz is “very happy with the season so far,” saying, “All our new guys are killing it. We all practice hard each day, with hitting and our fitness too, and are getting better each day so it’s hard not to be positive about our season thus far.” Two ‘surprise’ key performers have been J.P. Champa and Owen Greenwood. J.P. has been out for most of the past two seasons with injuries but this year has played no. 6 on the ladder and is one of the best doubles players as well. Owen has improved immensely from last year in both doubles and singles and has been a staple in the Top 4 of the lineup all year.

A moment that Ben describes as his favorite is one symbolic of a team growing both in talent and in camaraderie. He remembers, “We ran one [beep test], got yelled at, and were forced to run a second one. I think each person bettered their score from the last run and it was a pretty awesome moment for all of us to see what we all had at the bottom of the tanks.” Looking forward, the whole team is very optimistic about the rest of the season, and seem to be hitting their stride at the right time: their most recent win at St. George’s marks their fourth victory in a row.
