UConn Wins NCAA Basketball Championship

On Monday, April 8, UConn defeated Purdue 75-60, defending their national championship title and securing their seventh championship overall, and their sixth in the last 20 years. Tristen Newton led the Huskies in scoring with 20 points, however, what stood out in UConn’s victory was their stellar defense. Although AP Player of the Year Zach Edey scored 37 points for the Boilermakers, UConn held Purdue from deep as the second-best three-point shooting team in the country went 1/7 from beyond the arc. What makes UConn’s championship victory even more impressive is that they were the first team since Florida in 2006-07 to win back-to-back. Additionally, this game was UConn’s twelfth straight March Madness win, and they have won all of the last 12 by at least 13 points. In the world of the transfer portal, with players frequently moving schools, and quickly changing college basketball landscape, it was very impressive that UConn has been able to accomplish all that they have.
