Week #3 of Summer 2018: June 19-25

Rising Juniors Enjoy Great Weather in Chatham

Last week, rising Juniors David Bergantino, Will Bramley, Holden Present, and Charlie Richards (all from the Class of 2020) spent six days relaxing in Chatham, MA. Taking advantage of clear skies and warm temperatures, the boys spent their days playing Spikeball, throwing a frisbee, sitting in a hot tub, and unwinding on the beach. The students enjoyed breathtaking sunsets and the crisp Cape water until their return to the Boston area on Friday, June 22nd.

Mr. Duarte Attends Maine Media Workshop

Mr. Duarte, teacher of Photography and Digital Video at Belmont Hill, lent his savvy insight and unique artwork to the school in his first year on campus. Looking to expand on his photographic expertise, he spent last week in Rockport, Maine, at the Maine Media Workshops and College, to work with photographer Greg Miller, a nationally recognized artist whose work has been published in the New York Times Magazine, LIFE, and TIME. Duarte and Miller worked with an 8×10 view camera, the same accordion-like class of camera used in the first photographs in the 1840s, albeit with modern refinements, and honed their craft in the picturesque environment of the Maine Coast. Mr. Duarte called the week “a thrilling and rewarding experience,” and is excited to bring the knowledge and stories he collected in Maine back to the Hill in the fall.

Varsity Cross Country Team Starts Summer Practices

On Saturday, June 23rd, the Belmont Varsity Cross Country Team held their first summer practice at Belmont Hill. Braving the poor and rainy weather which has been uncharacteristic of the summer thus far, the boys ran approximately five miles. After a post-run stretching session and showers, they then attended an 11 AM showing of the long-awaited Incredible 2, which they thoroughly enjoyed. The team concluded their bonding experience with subs at Ma Magoo’s.

Birthday Shoutout
