Soccer, Football, and Cross-Country Preview

With the fall season underway, Belmont Hill’s football, cross country, and soccer teams are all getting ready to make a run at a strong year. Each team has its own goals heading into the season, but all three share the same mindset of putting in the work early and letting the results follow.

Football is looking to have a big year this season. With many returning players and a full offseason of preparation, the team is confident heading into the fall. The returners know what it takes to compete at the varsity level, and the younger players stepping into new roles have had all offseason to get ready. The energy around the program this year has been palpable, and the team is hungry to show what they can do.

Cross country is coming off one of its best seasons in recent memory, finishing second at ISLs last year. The team is looking to take that next step and bring home a title this year. With many returning runners who know what it takes to compete at that level, there is a real sense that this team can do it. Second place is a great result, but for a team with this much experience coming back, nothing except a first-place finish will feel like enough. The team has put in a lot of work this offseason, and they hope it will show when the races start.

Soccer had a strong season last year before falling in the first round of the playoffs. The team knows they have unfinished business, and that has driven their preparation this offseason. With a mix of returning upperclassmen and younger players stepping into bigger roles, the team is looking to go a lot further this year. Losing in the first round stings, and that feeling has stuck with the returners all offseason. If the night game at BB&N is any indication, this year’s team is ready to make a real run at it. “Couldn’t have been more proud of the boys on Friday Night. It’s easy to get wound up and overwhelmed in a situation like that with so many people at the game, but we all kept our composure and played our way. We made the adjustments needed at halftime, and the boys put on a show for the loop. We’re in a great spot right now and hope to continue this form for the rest of the season,” said senior captain James Houghton after the electric win on Friday night. All three teams are still early in their seasons, but the energy around Belmont Hill athletics this fall has been hard to miss. The Panel wishes these teams the best of luck this Fall!
