The Belmont Hill Turkey Drive Provides 504 Thanksgiving Meals

On November 20, Form III students and Belmont Hill parent volunteers delivered 504 Thanksgiving meals to families in the greater Boston area by directly providing to families and working with many partner organizations.

Form III students led the charge, assembling boxes for food collection, generating buzz around campus, packing individual meals, and making deliveries. However, all Belmont Hill students were tasked with donating their Form’s assigned traditional Thanksgiving food, including canned vegetables and yams, stuffing, and potatoes.

Mr. Trautz first introduced the idea for the Turkey Drive in 2011, delivering approximately 50 meals to families in need. The massive community service event pivoted from delivering Turkeys to delivering entire Thanksgiving Dinners following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr. George reflected on a family that Belmont Hill students met during the early years of Turkey Drive. They had to meet at an intersection because the family was living in a warehouse; a Belmont Hill parent took the turkey home and cooked it for the family to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. It was “a pretty impactful moment,” Mr. George said. Moments like these inspire the Belmont Hill community to continue giving back.

Now having grown tenfold, the Thanksgiving Dinner Drive is a highlight of the Belmont Hill community service calendar and shows no signs of stopping its outstanding work. Following his experience, David Bosco ‘27 reflected: “Delivering Thanksgiving meals through the Turkey Drive is a heartwarming act that expressed the joy of sharing and the spirit of gratitude.”
