Varsity Soccer Kicks Off

This season’s varsity soccer team looks to improve upon last season’s progress under the leadership of Coach Montoya and captains Alex Vittal and Sean Scales. When asked about the team’s goals for the season, Coach Montoya said, “ our goal would be to make it to the New England tournament. To be in the top eight teams in New England. As far as the league goes, we want to be competitive and finish in the top three.” Going into preseason, Belmont Hill was ranked 8th, but “we want to prove everyone wrong.” Captain Alex Vittal echoed this, “Our team goal for the season is to make the NEPSAC playoffs with a dominant performance in the ISL.”

When asked about what the team will improve on, Alex said, “A big improvement we are looking to make is to close out games that we should win. We had many games last year where we saw ourselves lose leads in the last second, which led to big ties in must-win games. This season we are looking to play the full 90 and close out every game.” Coach Montoya stated, “The biggest difference from last year is that we have great team chemistry.”

In the first game of the season, the team already pulled off a hard-fought 2-0 victory against Bridgeton Academy through goals scored by Jack Bartlett (’26) and Alex Vittal (’24). As of September 23rd, Coach Montoya’s varsity Soccer team has a record of 2-1-1. The Panel wishes Coach Montoya and the rest of the soccer team luck for the rest of the season and in their quest for the ISL Championship.
