Just a month after it was announced that Belmont Hill and former Varsity Football coach Mr. Fucillo parted ways after three successful seasons, the Sextants have found their new coach: Frank Roche. Coach Roche joins Belmont Hill after three seasons leading Arlington High School, where he successfully turned a 3-8 program into a 17-15 team. Before switching to coaching, Coach Roche excelled as a wide receiver at Tufts, hauling in 92 receptions for 1,573 yards and capping his senior season with 10 touchdowns at 109.9 yards per game.
At Belmont Hill, Coach Roche will also serve as Assistant Athletic Director and teach classes. This past week, Coach Roche held his first official meeting with the team, setting expectations and laying the groundwork for next season. At the first meeting, he also laid out his personal values of “Faith, Family, and Football,” a symbol of both his passion for the game and his commitment to the Belmont Hill motto of developing “Young men of character.” Ky-mani Monteiro ’27, one of next fall’s captains, said that Coach Roche is “a great addition to Belmont Hill, and he seems really excited to get started.” Mr. LaLiberte ’14, the defensive coordinator and former Belmont Hill player, observed, “Coach Roche brings a palpable positive energy and enthusiasm to our program. His reputation precedes him from his time at Arlington, where he was not just a major factor in turning around the success of their football program but also their culture.” Coach LaLiberte also stated that he thinks Coach Roche is “Gonna do a great job and fit in with our community,” adding that he is “Excited to work with him.”
Coach Roche seeks to continue the excellence the Belmont Hill football team strives for, as expectations are high for the boys next fall. His high energy and dedication to his coaching will pair very well with the team, making for many fun and successful seasons to come. The Panel congratulates Coach Roche on his new position and looks forward to welcoming him to campus next fall!
